Guest speaker biographies
Professor Sooriakumaran (Prof PS) is a globally renowned urologist and prostate cancer surgeon, with professorial roles at the University of Oxford and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. He is among the UK’s highest-volume robotic prostate cancer surgeons, fellowship-trained at Cornell, Karolinska, and Oxford.
Prof PS practices at University College London Hospital, Cromwell Hospital, New Victoria Hospital, Harley Street Specialist Hospital (where he leads urology and men’s health), and LSDC Healthcare (as Chief Academic Officer). He previously led urology at Cleveland Clinic London, performing its first robotic surgeries.
He served as Clinical Lead for Robotic Soft-Tissue Surgery at the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE), contributing to the NHS’s first robotic surgery guidelines. He is an Invited Reviewer for the Royal College of Surgeons, a regional sub-committee member for Clinical Impact Awards, and an exam writer for the Intercollegiate Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship Examination in Urology.
Prof PS also holds portfolio roles in AI, innovation, corporate health education, and clinical trials with Oncoflow, Avegen Health, Smart About Health, and Lindus Health.
Professor Yi-Zhe Song is a leading expert in democratised and responsible AI, serving as Co-Director of the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI and a Turing Academic Lead at the Alan Turing Institute. His pioneering research focuses on making AI controllable and accessible, notably through intuitive sketch-based interfaces and innovations in real-time image generation. This work has achieved significant industry impact, influencing generative AI tools at major companies like Apple, Samsung, and Stability. Professor Song also holds key national leadership roles dedicated to shaping an ethical and inclusive future for AI. He is Co-Director of the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Digital Media Inclusion and the capability lead for democratisation for the UK's CoSTAR National Lab for the creative industries. Beyond his own innovations, he is passionate about nurturing future talent, having founded two of the UK's most successful AI Master's programs, contributing significantly to the UK AI talent pipeline. He also advises companies such as GAEA.AI on building trustworthy AI.
Richard Barkey (OK 1981) is the CEO of Imparta, a global leader in sales training and enablement, and a pioneer in the use of AI and agentic AI. Richard founded Imparta in 1997 after seven years at McKinsey & Co, and he is a regular keynote speaker around sales, strategy, learning and technology. Richard holds a first-class degree in Engineering from Cambridge University and an MBA with Distinction from the Harvard Business School.
Radhika Vij (OK 2020) graduated from UCL in 2024 with an Integrated Master’s degree in Natural Sciences. In her final year, she focused her master’s project on applying machine learning to medical research, developing computer vision models for endoscopy video analysis to help improve cancer detection. She now works as a Machine Learning Engineer specialising in Generative AI, where she designs and deploys production-grade Agentic applications. Her role involves working closely with clients to understand their goals and challenges, then developing tailored solutions that solve practical problems and enhance how organisations use technology.
