After leaving King’s in 1950, Michael studied medicine at Oxford University and St Bartholomew’s Hospital before a long career in General Practice, retiring only at the age of 77.
Much of his career was spent in rural Australia where his passion for travel and yacht sailing took him widely across that continent, accompanied by his wife and beloved pet cats. His unerring optimism and enthusiasm for the outdoor lifestyle meant that he was always made welcome there.
On returning to the UK, he lived in the West Country, indulging further his love of sailing and the sea. Once age meant that this was no longer possible, he moved closer to his family in Yorkshire. He leaves behind his wife Jane of almost 45 years, three children from his first marriage, along with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Not forgetting Phoebe the cat!
Dr Michael Whitehouse died in York on 4 February 2023.
