Gordon Bates attended King’s between 1938 and 1947, a period interrupted by WW2. After leaving King’s Gordon studied law at Corpus Christi College, Oxford and gained an MA HONS in Jurisprudence in 1952. He went on to become a barrister at the Inner Temple in 1953 and eventually became Company Secretary of ICL and STC before he retired in 1991. He was a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He was very much involved in the Scouts becoming County Commissioner for Surrey in 1974 and was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey in 1984.
