Peter Richard Martin (OK 1967) has died after a battle with cancer.
He joined the Junior School in the first form, and later won an 11+ scholarship to the school.
He was in the rugby team throughout his school career, playing as a fearless scrum-half.
He won a scholarship to Pembroke College Oxford to study geography, but soon transferred to Trinity College Dublin to study medicine. He completed his medical training at Newcastle General Hospital and then relocated to Norway where he worked for several years as a GP before moving into public health working at City Hall, Oslo.
He was a lifelong supporter of the Labour Party and had a keen interest in railways and later, his garden. He is survived by second wife Hilde, sons Robin and Sean, and seven granddaughters.
