Timothy Hornsby was a pupil in the junior school at King's from 1949 to 1954. He left to go to Bradfield College, Berkshire, where he had been awarded a scholarship. After reading history at Christ Church, Oxford, he undertook postgraduate studies at Harvard and Columbia University. In the mid-1960s, back in the United Kingdon, he entered the civil service and enjoyed a varied career in government, conservation and local government.
Timothy was perhaps best known as the founding Chief Executive of the National Lottery Charities Board. Under his leadership, the board established systems that enabled thousands of charitable organisations across the UK to benefit from Lottery funding.
In retirement Timothy sat on various boards, including the Horniman Museum and Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the Field Lane Charity, the International Tree Foundation and the Charles Darwin Trust.
