The February half-term saw GB rowing trials taking place in Boston, Lincolnshire. Seven King's rowers travelled to the competition where they took part in long distance assessments.
All seven rowers - Alastair (U6K2), Ivo (U6M), Felix S (U6Mac2), Callum (L6M1), Rafael (L6A2), Sebastian S (L6K2), and Alex H (U5K) - raced extremely well, with standout results for Ivo (U6M), Alastair and Alex H (U5K). Ivo secured an impressive top five finish in each of his races, including both a second and third place performance; while team mate Alastair was close behind with three top six races and his best performance winning him third place.
Alex's journey to the trials was particularly interesting as he was a late entry into the event. Rowing coaches Mr Whitelaw and Mr Thompson jumped on an opportunity to enter the J16 rower as a partner to a boy from St Paul's. Through a show of impressive grit and determination, Alex met the ergo cut-off required for qualification for the event and, as the competition progressed, he went on to climb up the rankings with each race. His final performance saw him secure a finish as the eighth fastest pair, which places him firmly in the running for GB representation in the summer.
