On Tuesday, 12th November, King's College School hosted its inaugural bursaries conference, the Bursaries Summit for London Schools, in partnership with The Bursary Foundation.
The event welcomed representatives from various London schools for an afternoon focused on bursary provision and its meaningful impact. Dr Anne Cotton, Head of King's, and Jenny Hopkinson, Founder of The Bursary Foundation, opened the summit. Jenny highlighted the event's purpose:
"The summit offers a chance to learn from speakers and peers about the vital work in our sector towards social mobility through bursaries. Achieving this is challenging; attracting talent and ensuring young people are supported to thrive requires significant effort, which we will explore today."
Delegates gained insights from experts, including Dr Cristina Floe and Kieran Smith, as well as King's own Peter Hatch and Caroline Roberts. Topics covered included bursary funding, outreach strategies, and the impact of VAT on bursaries. A roundtable discussion led by Julie Robinson, CEO of the Independent Schools Council, allowed participants to share their experiences in overcoming challenges in this essential work.
Dr Cotton remarked, "We were thrilled to partner with the Bursary Foundation for the summit, bringing together leaders to enhance our impact. Bursaries and fee assistance are central to King's mission, and it was inspiring to engage in discussions aimed at fostering a diverse student body."
