A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our SNS: Tech event, "How AI is Redefining our World".
Our exceptional speakers consisting of two current King's parents and two alumni — Richard Barkey (OK 1981), Radhika Vij (OK 2020), Yi-Zhe Song, and Prasanna Sooriakumaran (Prof PS) — brought together insights from business, engineering, medicine and academia, making for a rich and energising discussion.
A few standout themes:
🔹 Innovation is outpacing regulation
The panel highlighted the need for smart, targeted governance that supports progress while keeping ethics and human oversight at the centre.
🔹 A shift toward people‑centred AI
Professor Yi‑Zhe Song discussed a future where AI becomes smaller, local, and more controllable—offering better privacy and clearer accountability.
🔹 Cognitive offloading is real
Two recent studies were shared showing how over‑reliance on AI can reduce critical‑thinking skills, underscoring the importance of problem framing.
Thank you again to our brilliant panellists for their numerous insights and to the King's community for being so engaged. Look out for more lifelong learning and networking events from the development team at King's!
