Howard William Burchell was a pupil in the Junior and Senior Schools at Kings, leaving in 1958. He won a scholarship to Wadham College, Oxford, where he read Physics. He was Assistant Master of Physics at King's in 1962 and then Head of Physics at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Grammar School. Howard was later a Chief Examiner in Physics for the Midland Examining Group. He died on 4 August 2020.
