In 2025 we established the King’s College School Bursaries Foundation, an independent charity (no. 1213182) that will steward our funds raised for bursary support at the school, it will be our endowment by which we will fund bursaries forever.
For nearly 200 years, King’s has combined academic excellence with a commitment to opportunity. From its founding in 1829 through to the Surrey Scholars scheme in the 20 the century and the modern bursary programme established in the 1970s, philanthropy has consistently shaped the lives of pupils and the direction of the school.
Today, however, that legacy must evolve. King’s now has the opportunity to play an even greater role in driving social mobility through education. Our bursaryendowment is a strategic commitment to extending opportunity, removing barriers, and ensuring that the most talented pupils can benefit from a King’s education irrespective of financial means – providing excellence for all.
Our commitment to social mobility is a part of who we are, we now want to remain an enduring element of our future, forever. An investment in the endowment is an investment in the future education of our local community of talented young people.

An endowment fund is a long‑term investment fund made up of donated money or assets that are invested to generate ongoing income for the school. Typically, the original capital is preserved while a portion of the investment returns is used each year to support bursaries in any academic year while the capital sum is held to support bursaries for future generations
An endowment fund is essential to the long-term sustainability of King’s because it provides a reliable financial foundation to support those who most need it in our community. An endowment will ensure that this support remains in perpetuity, that it will last forever generating year after year support for pupils. It also multiplies a donor’s impact it can help fund bursaries for countless young people over time.
The endowment fund is managed by the King’s College School Bursaries Foundation, a separate registered charity from the school under the governance of the Trustees of the foundation. The Chair of the foundation is Chris Hale (OK 1973). Investments are managed through a deal and custody arrangement with J.P. Morgan and we have an invested fund made up of a “treasury” portfolio and “endowment” portfolio.
