King's rowers travelled to Nottingham to take part in the highly competitive National Schools' Regatta. Dr Winchester, Head of Rowing, gave a round up of the results which included three top-three finishes from King's crews.
"The J16 1st VIII, which equalled eventual winners St Paul's in the time trial (to the nearest 100th of a second!), climbed through the field after a slow start in the final to win silver.
"The J15 2nd VIII, which went fastest in the time trial by 5 seconds, managed to deal well with the very tough wavey head wind conditions in the final to claim silver in this competition.
"The senior IV+ who, despite a late injury leading to a crew change just a few days before the competition, dealt with the tough conditions very well and were in a tight race with Pangbourne's top IV+ for the silver medal. It was nip and tuck for the last km of the race with Pangbourne coming out on top over the line by just 0.13 seconds."
These hard-fought achievments made for a celebratory start to the weekend, however, proceedings were dampened by the strong wind conditions which prevented the girls' doubles from being able to compete, as the Sunday events were cancelled.
