The Reverend Christopher Leffler was born on 22 September 1933, the only son of Hereward and Vera Leffler. He was a pupil at King’s from 1947 to 1952, where he enjoyed learning the piano, rowing, tennis and badminton. He also played an active role in the Bible study group and the Cadets. On leaving King’s, Christopher was awarded the Barry Prize and a Surrey Major Scholarship. After two years of National Service in the navy, he went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, to read Theology, after which he went to Lincoln Theological College. He was ordained in Southwark Cathedral on 24 May 1959 and took up the position of curate at Bermondsey in London. He would make several ministerial moves including St Stephen's Church, Canley, Glemham in Suffolk, and Trimley St Martin and St Mary.

Christopher married Jane on 17 October 1959 at Lynton Church in north Devon. Their first son, Jonathan, was born in 1960, their second, Jeremy, in 1962. Triplets Elisabeth, Ruth and Timothy soon followed. Over the years, they welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
